How to Plan Your Industrial Flooring Project
A concrete floor is one of the most fundamental investments in a facility. It also can be one of the most neglected when it comes to maintenance. Simply put, taking care of your floors is one of the simplest ways to keep your facility running as it should.
A professional-quality floor doesn’t just happen, however. It takes careful planning, wise choices, and follow-through. Here are the twelve steps for planning a successful floor refinishing project:
1. Identify Needs and Concerns of Flooring in Your Facility
2. Contact Contractors
Contact contractors and/or material vendors to research options and determine the best solutions for your needs and budget.
3. Obtain Quotes from Reputable Contractors
4. Evaluate Quotes and Vet Your Selected Contractor
- Do they have insurance?
- Are they bondable?
- Do they own their equipment or rent it?
- Do they have the manpower for your project?
- Do they have the financial resources to back your project?
- Do they understand your needs and concerns?
5. Schedule Your Project
If you are scheduling for a holiday shutdown, you should be ready to schedule at least six months in advance. Holiday shutdowns book well ahead of time.
6. Make Sure You Can Provide What the Contractor Needs
- Power
- Heating or cooling required for the products being installed
- Water
- Construction dumpsters
- Restrooms and break areas for the contractors
7. Inform Your Personnel of the Work Taking Place
Make sure personnel stay off the floor being worked on. They should also be aware of any materials that may produce an odor. Some materials may require personnel to remain outside the building during application.
8. Have the Area Ready When Your Contractor Arrives
- Move equipment and materials out of the area.
- Cover anything that cannot be moved.
- Broom-sweep the floor.
9. Meet the Contractor’s Team Upon Arrival
10. Be Available During the Installation
Remain available to answer any questions that may arise during the project.
