Client Overview
Anderson County Career and Technology Center serves high school students from Anderson Districts 1 & 2. They offer a range of career focused training and certification programs. The school is accredited by the South Carolina Department of Education and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.
Challenges
The existing substrate was dated quarry tile with several damages areas and failing epoxy grout throughout a culinary training kitchen. The client needed a durable surface that could withstand hot water wash downs and thermal shock from cook lines.
Installment Process
The Liquid Floors team completed this project over a semester break while students were away. The process began with diamond grinding the existing quarry tile. Chipping hammers were used to remove any loose or heavily damaged areas. Urethane cement was then hand troweled over the entire surface to fill in areas of damaged or missing grout, this also ensures a smooth and cleanable surface. Then, the base later of urethane cement was applied and broadcast with the decorative flake blend. The decorative flake will also give the floor a slip resistant finish. As final coats we used methyl methacrylate (MMA) floor coatings. These floors cure in less than 1 hour making multiple protective layers easy to apply during a short period of time.
Results
Students have loved the appeal of the new kitchen floor. Decorative urethane cement with MMA floor coatings is an excellent choice for any modern kitchen or food manufacturing environment.
Conclusion
Commercial kitchens and food processing facilities can benefit from resinous coatings in many ways. The advantages of floor coatings over traditional tile kitchen floors are endless. The school has already experienced benefits from costly maintenance or epoxy grout maintenance.
