Chemical Resistant Epoxy Coating for Secondary Containment Area

Client Overview

Solvay Specialty Polymers manufactures a variety of high-performance polymers for clients globally.  They specialize in solving problems for industrial manufacturing client through their innovative formulas.

Challenges

The Novolac Epoxy System was installed in a secondary containment area.  Scheduling was critical to ensure ambient air temperatures could be met and weather did not affect the curing process.

Installment Process

The containment area had a failing tank liner system previously installed.  Over a few consecutive days we were able to remove the existing coatings and fiber mesh.  Once the substate was sound we applied a multiple coat Epoxy Novolac Phenolic Coating.  This system was able to withstand harsh chemical exposer and prevent ground water contamination.

Results

Solvay continues to benefit from the containment liner.  No problems or concerns have been reported from internal or state safety

Conclusion

Selecting the correct tank liner coatings is critical for a successful project.  Cross referencing product data sheets minimizes risks and prevents environmental exposure.  Being conscious of cracks in liner coatings and performing routine maintenance is critical to preventing ground water contamination.
