Client Overview
Mrs. Grissom’s Salads Inc. was founded in 1955 by Herbert and Grace Grissom. The company produces quality branded products for groceries throughout the Southeast and Midwest.
Challenges
The food plant had areas of failing coatings and damaged concrete in multiple areas. Constant hot water washdowns had taken its toll on the floors over the years. The plant also had a short window to complete the floor coatings project.
Installment Process
The Liquid Floors team completed this project during an inventory shutdown. We used chipping hammers and shotblasting equipment to remove areas of bad concrete and failing epoxy floor coatings. Urethane mortar primer was then rolled out to seal the porous surface and prevent out gassing. Next, urethane cement was troweled into place and broadcast with silica sand to create a slip resistant surface. We then top coated with a chemical resistant food grade urethane floor coating.
Results
Mrs. Grissom’s Salads loved the result on this project. As University of Kentucky alumni, we were able to match school colors for a unique look in the facility. The install process was as seamless as the finished floor. Production was able to begin as scheduled with the issues hampering their daily process resolved.
Conclusion
Durable urethane cement floor coatings can not only protect new concrete floors, but it can also correct years of neglect and damage. Once applied food production facilities are able to benefit from their low maintenance benefits
