A luxury homeowner reached out to Liquid Floors while deciding on a flooring option for a private garage. As a classic car enthusiast, he wanted a floor coating to serve as a backdrop to his stunning automotive collection. The floor coating needed to be durable enough to perform general maintenance, and aesthetically appealing for visitors and events.

Challenges

The concrete in the garage was worn with multiple pits and cracks. There was also an existing epoxy floor paint that had began to peel and delaminate throughout the space.

Installment Process

The Liquid Floors team used diamond grinders to remove the old epoxy flooring system. Specialized diamond tooling was selected to scarify the surface during the initial grind. This is followed by a second floor grinding phase with 40-grit diamonds to prepare the surface for the epoxy floor coatings. Next, surface cracks and divots were patched to repair existing damaged concrete. The decorative system selected required a pigmented epoxy primer to be applied as a base coat. This is a critical step to ensure proper adhesion and provide a matrix to complement translucent metallic epoxy. The second epoxy coat containing the metallic pigment is applied at approximately 30 mils with a 3/8″ nap roller. This gives the metallic epoxy the ability to float out and create the desired marbled look our client was looking to achieve. Once fully cured we screen sand the surface and apply the chemical resistant urethane topcoat.

Results

The results on this garage floor project were truly remarkable. When we began the project, the environment was not a bright and inviting space. Damages to the existing surface made the floor difficult to clean and provided poor light reflectivity. Our metallic epoxy floor left the desired results for our client. He now has a floor that is not only durable but compliments his beautiful automotive collection.
